600 fans turned out to support the Ole Miss women’s soccer team as they defeated the University of Central Arkansas 2-0 in their season opening exhibition game Friday evening.

The Rebels offense put the pressure on fast scoring their first goal in the 4th minute of the game. Freshman CeCe Kizer dribbled down the right side of the field making a cross to the middle, with Senior Jessica Hiskey there to finish the play.

The Rebels offense continued their intensity into the first half scoring their second goal seven minutes later, giving the Rebels a 2-0 advantage.

The Rebels outshot UCA 9-0 in the first half, followed by 15-2 in the second. Ole Miss also earned seven corner kicks against the Bears in the first half alone, tallying 10 corner kicks on the night.

“We wanted to play quickly, I think we did that, we created a lot of chances and good chances that I think will eventually go in, but I was overall happy with the performance.” Said Head coach Matthew Mott

RS Sophomore Madi Killeen and RS Freshman Marnie Merritt have been duking it out all offseason in hopes to claim the role of starting goalkeeper, both received equal playing time tonight.

With regards to if the coaches have picked their starting goalie for this year Mott says they have not.

“I think we will announce it on Monday. That’s our goal, certainly to go back and watch this film and watch training tomorrow, we have kind of an intersquad on Sunday so kind of based off all of those things we will make a decision.”

The Rebels will travel to Ft. Myers, Florida on Tuesday before facing off against Florida Gulf Coast on Friday night at 6p.m. Ole Miss returns to the pitch for the first home match of the season against Boise St. on Sunday, August 23 at 12 p.m.
