
Three standout golfers have signed a national letter of intent to join the Ole Miss men’s golf team for the 2016-17 academic year head coach Chris Malloy announced Wednesday. Rebels have secured commitments from Brody Blackmon, Chip Getz and Matthew Ruel.
“Today is a great day for the future of Ole miss men’s golf,” Malloy said. “We are adding three elite players to our program that will help us in our pursuit of winning SEC Championships.”

Blackmon, a Sulfur Springs, Texas native is the 28th-ranked prospect of the 2016 recruiting class. He qualified for the 2015 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship where he finished tied for eighth in stroke play and won the 2015 Legends Junior Tour battle at the Bridges. He is also placed second at the 2015 Texas-Oklahoma Golf Tournament and is a two-time club champion at Sulphur Springs Country Club.
“Brody will be an instant impact player,” Malloy said. “He had a great summer and has proven he is ready to compete in the SEC. He is consistent of a junior player in all phases of the game you will find.”
Getz attends Brophy College Preparatory in Paradise Valley, Arizona, where he finished runner-up at the 2015 Arizona State Golf Championship and has four top-five finishes in 2015 high school invitationals. Getz is the club champion at Paradise Valley Country Club.

“We are extremely excited about Chip’s upside and feel that his best golf is a head of him,” Malloy said. “He has flown under the radar a little bit, and I feel he has the talent to contribute to us winning championships.”
An Oldsmar, Florida native, Ruel won the 2015 Future Masters, and the Jesuit High School product is the 2015 Class 2A Florida High School State Championship runner-up. He won medalist honors at the 2015 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship Qualifier, and would go on to finish 24th in stroke play at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship to qualify for match play. In 2012, Ruel won the Kids Golf Teen World Championship.
“Matthew has competed at the highest levels of junior golf, and has shown he is as good as any player in the country,” Malloy said. “He has won some very elite tournaments and that will help his talent translate well at the collegiate level.”
