University of Mississippi junior, Carli Sears, was struck by a black pickup truck and later passed away from the injuries on January 17. WV MetroNews report that Morgantown, Virginia police arrested a West Virginia University student, Alex Hambrick, for the hit and run.

According to WV MetroNews: “WVU freshman Alexander Hambrick, 19, a 2015 Ripley High School graduate from Winfield, was jailed on a $50,000 bond and charged with felony hit-and-run.

“He left the roadway, went onto the sidewalk and Miss Sears was struck from behind. So there was no way she could even see the truck to avoid it,” Morgantown police chief Ed Preston told Hoppy Kercheval on Metronews “Talkline”.”

Carli Sears Memorial Page on Facebook has stated her funeral will be Friday, January 22 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Charleston, West Virginia. For those who knew her in Mississippi may be interested in the Candlelight Service for Carli Sears at the Oxford Conference Center at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 27.
