Sophomore left-hander Hunter Lacefield made it official with Mississippi College on Thursday, signing to play baseball for the Choctaws next season.

“I’m blessed to continue my career at the next level,” Lacefield said. “Growing up and kind of being behind everybody, it feels good to finally get an opportunity to go out and keep doing what I love. I’m likely going to be in a relief role and am going to do my best when my name is called.”

Lacefield has appeared in 17 games for the Rangers in two seasons, three starts, posting a 2-2 record with a 4.55 ERA and a save. He’s struck out 35 against 13 walks in 40 career innings.

A 5-foot-11, 155-pound southpaw, Lacefield was a three-sport athlete at Magnolia Heights, helping the Chiefs to back-to-back-to-back MAIS AAA Division II Baseball State Championships from 2012-14. He was 9-1 with three saves and a sub-2.00 ERA his final two seasons.

The Senatobia native is the fourth Ranger to ink with a four-year school so far this season along with LeeMarcus Boyd (USM), Colt Smith (USM) and Peyton Plumlee (Mississippi State).

Northwest averages 7-8 four-year signees per year and has a lengthy list of next year players.
