St. Andrews Road & Circle Receive Much-Needed Pavement for First Time in ‘Many Years’

St. Andrews Road and Circle have received a new pavement over the past few weeks. The road had needed construction for a while, and the city decided it was time to address it.

While there is no record of when the last time the road was paved, residents say that it had been many years since work had been done on the road.

“We typically inspect roads twice yearly to prioritize.  We assign a grade to each road,” said Bart Robinson, Oxford city public works director.

The funding for the paving was part of the yearly budget and came from the city of Oxford’s general fund.

St. Andrews Road has been repaved for the first time in a long while, according to the residents.

While Robinson said that there are no immediate plans for road paving throughout the city, the city planners will meet in the early winter to decide.

“We will formulate our schedule in February or March,” Robinson said. “That typically gets us through the winter months and allows us to see which streets held up through a few freeze and thaw cycles.  We have at least one street remaining to be paved this fiscal year: University Avenue.”
