Rebels still soul-searching after poor outing vs. Commodores in Nashville

That’s exactly what happened. The Commodores looked like the team itching to put a rough season behind them. Ole Miss looked like the team that has been beaten up, not the team that found new life in true freshman Shea Patterson’s debut a week earlier.
5 TAKEAWAYS
Less for Patterson: Patterson didn’t have the numbers he had in his debut, but he did throw for 222 yards and 2 touchdowns on 20-of-42 passing. Vanderbilt clearly had it out for Patterson, who at times looked too anxious to leave the pocket. He’ll have a chance to lead the Rebels to a bowl game, a big factor in whether or not pulling his redshirt was worth it or not.

Ole Miss Volleyball Tops Georgia 3-1 on the Road

With the win, the Rebels are guaranteed their third straight winning season since the mid 80s with a 16-13 overall record heading into the final week of the season. It also marked the fourth straight win against Georgia.
Georgia raced out to an 8-2 lead to start the match forcing Ole Miss to use a timeout early. The Bulldogs maintained their lead throughout until late in the set, when the Rebels tied it up at 22. Georgia regained the lead, 23-22, but then sophomore Kathryn Cather tied it up on the next play with one of her five kills in the set. Junior Kate Gibson delivered the Rebels their first set point, 24-23, but Georgia answered. Cather’s fifth kill of the set handed the Rebels another set point, but the Bulldogs tied it again on a Rebel attack error. Senior Aubrey Edie pushed it over for the kill and then Gibson served up an ace on set point to complete the Rebels’ comeback, 27-25.
Just like the first set, the Bulldogs took the early lead 7-3 and led 15-9 at the media timeout. Georgia went on to garner six set points leading 24-18, before the Rebels went on a 5-0 run to cut it to one, 24-23. The Bulldogs won the next point to finish the set 25-23 and tie the overall match 1-1.
The Rebels didn’t waste any time getting off to a solid start in set three. They hit .333 in the set and broke open a close one with a 14-4 run to go up 21-10 late. Ole Miss closed out the Bulldogs 25-12 to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
Looking to get back in the match and force a fifth set, Georgia gained the first lead in set four and led by five, 13-8, but the Rebels answered with a 7-1 run to lead it 15-14 at the media timeout. After Georgia briefly tied it at 15-15, Ole Miss used a 10-4 run to finish off the Bulldogs 25-19 and the match, 3-1.

The fourth quarter was extremely competitive with both teams battling every single possession. Shelby Gibson(Murfreesboro, Tenn.) completed an old-fashioned three-point play and Shandricka Sessom (Byhalia, Miss.) nailed a triple to give Ole Miss a 66-59 lead with 3:58 left – the largest Ole Miss lead of the game. Ole Miss (4-0) really clamped down on the defensive end of things in the fourth quarter limiting High Point to just nine points, while forcing four fourth quarter turnovers en route to the victory.
Sessom led the way with 18 point to lead all-scorers, while Shequila Joseph (London, England) tied her career high with 10 rebounds. Erika Sisk (Oxford, Miss.) flirted with a triple double falling two assists and two rebounds shy of the milestone.
Sessom came out strong to start the third quarter with five unanswered points as Ole Miss jumped ahead 27-34, but High Point quickly got back in the groove and nailed a triple, but Ole Miss kept on the offensive and with a Lewis triple forced High Point to call an early timeout. Despite the early lead, High Point wouldn’t go quietly and tied the game, 40-40, at the 5:46 mark – the 10th tie of the game.
The teams battled throughout the third quarter much like the first half. Bretta Hart (Poplarville, Miss.) provided some quality minutes off the bench with a season-high six points in 10 minutes.
Ole Miss jumped out to 10-4 lead on the strength of a five early points from Lewis who was making her first start of the season and seventh of her career. Despite an early lead six-point lead, the Panthers used a 4-0 spurt to cut the game to just two points at the first media timeout. High Point tied the game, but a bucket from Sisk and a trey from Joseph kept the lead with Ole Miss, but it was a tight game, 19-17, at the end of the first quarter.
The visitors tied the game out of the quarter break and it was a back-and-forth affair for the majority of the second quarter, with neither team taking more than a two point lead in the quarter in a half that featured eight ties and four lead changes. Gibson was a spark off the bench late in the quarter with six quick points in the second stanza, but neither team could pull away late as Ole Miss took a slim 29-27 lead into the break.
