On Wednesday morning, former Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt refiled his lawsuit against his old school, its athletic foundation and the IHL Board of Trustees in Lafayette County Circuit Court, according to Antonio Morales of The Clarion-Ledger.
Morales reports that the complaint is based on an alleged breach of contract, breach of duty of good faith and fair dealing and punitive damages. Nutt had previously filed this complaint in federal court on July 12, but it was dismissed by a United States District Judge on Aug. 9.
After former Rebels coach Hugh Freeze resigned following a pattern of personal misconduct being discovered in his phone records, Nutt sought an apology from the university. Nutt also wanted $500,000 from the university to fund an integrity for college sports commission, but no settlement was reached.
Nutt’s new lawsuit states that he should receive an “award of compensatory and punitive damages the costs of this action, attorneys’ fees, and post-judgement interest, and for all other relief deemed proper,” according to Morales.
Among other things early in this complaint, it’s alleged Hugh Freeze harbored resentment for Nutt for years after he wasn’t retained, and cited a Jill Freeze quote about holding a grudge against Nutt at one time. pic.twitter.com/Br0iKWZgQy
