Oxford Commons Boulevard will be renamed Ed Perry Boulevard to align with the existing Ed Perry Boulevard.

The Oxford Board of Aldermen approved changing the name of Oxford Commons Boulevard to pay homage to the late Ed Perry.

On Tuesday, City Engineer Reanna Mayoral presented a request to the Board to rename Oxford Commons Boulevard, often referred to as “Frontage Road,” to Ed Perry Boulevard.

The road directly across from where Oxford Commons Boulevard begins is currently named Ed Perry Boulevard. Renaming Oxford Commons Boulevard will provide a continuous street name, which reduces confusion.

“It further the Honorable Ed Perry, who faithfully represented this area for 30 years,” Mayoral said.

Felix Edwin “Ed” Perry, 76, was an attorney and lifelong Oxford and Lafayette County resident. He was elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives from Lafayette County in 1967 and served 32 consecutive years (eight terms, nine elections and seven governors) before retiring in 1999.
