The city of Oxford will be closing the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and North 16th Street for two days to remove a large tree during spring break.

Building and Ground Official Greg Pinion said the tree is diagonal across from the Oxford Memorial Cemetery at the intersection of the two roads.

“The tree is on city property and has been slated as hazardous due to more than 40 percent of the trunk has rot,” Pinion said.

Pinion said due to the size of the tree, his department needs the intersection to be closed for two days to be able to cut it down and remove the debris safely.

Pinion said the city is aiming to remove the tree on March 11 and 12; however, those days could change depending on the weather.

Detour signs will be posted on the road and a map will be put up on the city’s website and social media sites.
