The names of the man and woman who died Monday after an apparent murder-suicide have been released.

According to Lafayette County Coroner Rocky Kennedy, Tanya Denise Mathis, 42, and Anthony Patrick Hampton, 43, were found dead by Lafayette County Sheriff’s deputies who were responding to a domestic disturbance call.

Deputies were dispatched at about 9 p.m. to a house on the 100 Block of County Road 147 where investigators with the LCSD and Mississippi Bureau of Investigations determined Mathis and Hampton died as a result from a murder-suicide involving a firearm.

The home where the shooting took place belongs to a member of Hampton’s family.

Kennedy said autopsies are expected to be completed today or Thursday which will confirm the cause of death and who shot first and then themselves.

Kennedy said the decision to hold off on releasing the victims’ names was to allow the family to grieve in peace.
