While Tropical Storm Sally continues to strengthen as it makes its way toward the Gulf Coast, Lafayette County is expected to see a couple of wet, rainy days later this week.
Sally is expected to make landfall Tuesday afternoon as a category one hurricane in eastern Lousiana near the Mississippi River and then take a sharp turn east.
“It should affect our area sometime Wednesday with winds between 10 to 20 mph and some rain,” said Lafayette County Emergency Management Director Steve Quarles.
Most of heavy rains are expected to pass south of north Mississippi.
“There is minimal threat of tornadoes for our area,” Quarles said Monday morning, “But the current forecast confidence is low, so all of this is subject to change.”
According to the National Weather Service, there is a 60% chance of rain and thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday.
Cooler temperatures will follow the rain keeping the expected highs in the upper 70s and lows in the uppers 50s through the end of the week.
