Pat Conroy to Read from ‘The Death of Santini’ at UM

Reading set for Fulton Chapel, free tickets required to attend

Bestselling novelist Pat Conroy will read from his new memoir, “The Death of Santini,” at 7 p.m. Nov. 1 in Fulton Chapel at the University of Mississippi.

The reading is free and open to the public. Tickets, which are required, are available at the UM Department of English and at Square Books, which co-sponsors the event.

“Pat Conroy’s return to our campus promises to be a significant event for the university and its students,” said Ivo Kamps, chair of the English department. “Mr. Conroy is one of the South’s leading and best-selling novelists and this new book, ‘The Death of Santini,’ from which he will read in Fulton Chapel, will only add to his reputation. We in the English department are grateful to Mr. Conroy and to Square Books for bringing him to us.”Conroy, a New York Times bestselling author, was born in Atlanta in 1945. He wrote “The Great Santini,” which was published in 1976 and later made into a movie starring Robert Duvall. He’s also author of “Lords of Discipline,” published in 1980. His “Prince of Tides,” published in 1986, has more than 5 million copies in print. The latter was made into a movie, which Barbara Streisand directed and starred in, and Nick Nolte was also nominated for an Academy Award for his performance.

Conroy lives with his wife, novelist Cassandra King, in Beaufort, S.C.
