It's Finally Official — Golson Goes to Auburn

The biggest rumor about the Ole Miss football program is finally official.
Rebel right guard Austin Golson will officially transfer to Auburn to play college football. Golson says he is leaving Oxford because both of his granddads are ill and he needs to be closer to home.
Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze released a statement this morning on Golson’s departure:
“Austin Golson has informed us he has decided to move closer to his family and is choosing to walk on at Auburn, following normal transfer rules,” Freeze said. “We wish him the very best.”
Golson practiced with the first-string offense throughout spring football before leaving the team. Family illness is considered a valid good reason for a hardship transfer by the NCAA. Golson lives in Pratville, Ala.
Given this scenario, it’s entirely possible that on Nov 1, when Auburn rolls into Oxford, Golson could be a starting guard offensive lineman for the Tigers against the Rebels. That could make for some heated matchups at the Vaught.
