Watercolor and Ceramic Works Displayed at Southside Gallery
Watercolorist Wyatt Waters is exhibiting new work at Southside Gallery during the month of March. Yerger Andre also has ceramics on display.
Wyatt Waters grew up in Brookhaven, Mississippi and Clinton, Mississippi. He attended Mississippi College where he earned a bachelor’s degree in art. Waters currently lives and works in Clinton, Mississippi.
The places Waters has lived and traveled inspire his art. He says that as a form of free expression, his paintings are like his diary. Waters describes his approach to art and his painting process with the following statement. “We’re living in a digitized world, and I feel that with art, I get a real experience. It’s why I often do most of my works outside.”
Yerger Andre spent his childhood in Jackson, Mississippi. After High School graduation he attended Sewanee, then the University of Mississippi where he studied ceramics and received a B.A. in philosophy. His work has been exhibited throughout the southeast. A humanitarian, Andre also served in the Peace Corps as a volunteer with a crafts cooperative in Papua New Guinea. Andre lives and works in Oxford, Mississippi.
Andre will display porcelain vases and vessels with unique crystalline glazes that give them a metallic and translucent appearance sometimes mistaken for blown glass. Andre’s forms are elegant and symmetrical, showcasing his meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail. The slender necks of his vases look like a skyline of minarets when they are displayed in groups together.
“Yerger’s work is popular among gallery visitors,” said Southside Director, Anne Turan. “He is an integral part of the local arts community. We are pleased to showcase his ceramics again.”
