The Oxford High School (OHS) Band wraps up their performance season by winning the 2013-2014 MHSAA Sweepstakes Award, an award given to select bands that receive Superior scores in Marching, Concert and Sight-Reading competitions.
Oxford High School was one of 35 bands in Mississippi to receive the prestigious award.

“Winning this award is significant because bands receive it based on their performance in three different music disciplines: 1) marching and playing music but adding difficulty of moving 2) concert, where the level of music is more difficult, and 3) sight-reading, the most educational-based discipline because the students actually have to be able to read music and perform at a certain level,” said OHS Band Director Mel Morse.

“Oxford High School is home of one of the best band programs in the state of Mississippi,” said OHS Principal Mike Martin. “We are very proud of the staff and students who continuously practice and perform above what’s expected of them.”
