Halloween Weekend Music: Tuberville's Pine Box Edition

pine boxIt is only fitting that the eve of this year’s Auburn game is Halloween. Seems like just yesterday that on the eve of Tommy Tuberville’s hasty departure to the plains to accept the head coaching position at Auburn he told the Ole Miss family he’d never leave Oxford except “in a pine box.”
He apparently rose from the dead once his pine box arrived in Auburn, because he was on the sidelines the next fall. The undead will rise again this weekend in Oxford, leaving pine boxes vacant all over town.
Here’s a preview of this weekend’s live soundtrack.
Kenny Loggins — The Ford Center
Here’s our preview. What more needs to be said? Here’s a taste:

Granger Smith w/ Patrick McClary — The Lyric Theatre
Texas singer/songwriter Granger has been busy reinventing the face of traditional country one chart-topping single at a time. By consistently providing blended hits that are well outside the realm of “typical,” Granger’s music provides a refreshing and unique variation on the growing independent country music scene.

Water Liars — Proud Larry’s
North Mississippi’s own Fat Possum recording artists.

Kudzu Kings w/ Moon Pie Curtis & The Fixins — Proud Larry’s
In the midst of celebrating their 20th anniversary, Oxford’s legendary Kudzu Kings will haunt Proud Larry’s this Halloween, with opening act Moon Pie Curtis & The Fixins, another original Oxford ensemble. Don’t miss Ted Gainey on the drums with the Kings!

Eric Deaton Trio — Blind Pig Pub & Deli
The student (of R. L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough) is now the master. Enter his dojo in the basement Friday night.

Jerry Garcia Band Cover Band — Proud Larry’s
Remember Captain Trips? Remember his side solo project outside the Dead? Remember forever with this tight, entertaining cover outfit out of Athens, Georgia.
