This Saturday the beloved local cultural spot Oxford Treehouse Gallery will celebrate its first anniversary of its opening.

Located on 328 Country Road 418 in Oxford, the gallery has host art receptions, wedding parties and corporate gatherings and baby showers and even casual picnics all within its first year.

Walter and Vivian Niell, the couple behind the lovely gallery, are grateful for artists showcasing their works in the gallery space and to the clients who have supported the 16 regional artists presently showing in the gallery. Here is a video tour of the location, beautifully tucked away among cypress trees – some that support the back porch!

The couple began with a blacksmith shop in Lafayette County in 2002. Walter built a painting studio/gallery nestled in the trees (some actually supporting the porches) in 2005 formerly known as Neill Studios. The gallery doubled as their home and studio until construction was finished on their house on the same property in 2013.

“Walter and I are very happy with all that has happened at the gallery this past year,” said Vivian on www.oxfordtreehouse.com. “We have made new friends and continue to appreciate our ‘old friends’ support and guidance. The gallery has enhanced our lives in so many ways. Thank you to all who have shared our space and love of art!”

The couple invites all to join the gallery’s “first birthday” this Saturday from 10 a.m. to around 6 p.m. The party-goers can have a tintype portrait by Michael Foster for $75 per. Walk-ins are welcome but reservations will be honored first. For those who want to book a spot can drop $25 (non-refundable) to OTG Tintype Portraits.

Pop-Up chef Sam Rubin, with his partner Cecily Brown, will have a noodle bar on the gallery’s back porch. He will serve handmade lemon-ginger and honey-lavender sodas for $10. Those sodas sound too interesting to pass up!
