Watch Vaught-Hemingway Expansion via Construction Cam

A rendering of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium shows a bowled-in north end zone, which is under construction.
The Ole Miss Rebels football team is preparing to hit the road for its fourth consecutive bowl game, but back home in Oxford, Vaught-Hemingway Stadium is getting prepped for next season. Fans can keep up with the progress through a zoomable construction cam.
Construction crews are enclosing the north end zone to make the stadium a true bowl. This will accommodate 5,500 more Rebel faithful, bringing the total capacity to 64, 038.
Included in the expansion will be the addition of a 104-foot-by-49-foot video board into the tower structure behind the north end zone as well as two 30-foot-by-50-foot video boards in the south end zone.
Keep up with the whole construction progress through the construction cam here.

Very disappointing that they scaled the project back from the original plan. It makes no sense that the most visually impressive entrance to the stadium will be on the side that no one sees. This updated version is just a scaled up version of the bleachers. It doesn’t even bowl up the stadium to the existing high point of the stadium.
Someone needs to find out where the money that was raised for this project is going. The goals were exceeded but the project was slashed.

Good point. I agree that this doesn’t look very impressive and not what I was expecting.

While the original artist rendering looks impressive; perhaps they felt that massive of an addition would not be sustainable from an attendance perspective. I do agree the new addition should match the elevation of the east and west stands from an architectural perspective. As for the comment; “where the money raised for the project is going”. There have been a number of articles published recently about the exorbitant feed paid to coaching staff to not coach (buy out their contract etc. There are many other charges about public university (athletic fees) being tagged onto tuitions and these should be strictly voluntary. We are big Ole Miss fans and support the program but are also interested in open book accounting on all funds.

Agree Tampa. It looks eerily similar to what was built in Starkville, without anything nearly as successful as Forward Together.

The sketch of the private boxes in the north end zone are part of a long term expansion plan. The plan for this year has been, all along, to bowl in the north end zone and put the premium seats in the south end zone. What I’ve heard also is there is a concern about selling the private boxes in the north end zone because the sun would be in the occupants face for day games. Afraid they wouldn’t bring the money they should bring.
As far as the money, that fund is also being used to build the new coliseum as well as the stadium upgrades.

This has been the plans for a couple years now. Been published numerous times. No surprise. The decision was made to add another level of club seats in SEZ because infrastructure already there. This was completed before this past season. Students will be moved to be SEZ and go from 7500 to 10000 seats. Forward Together funds do not go to coaches salaries. Let’s give it a fair shot before criticizing our Athletic Dept.

I think the athletic dept. is building what we can afford; I think they are very wise!
