The city of New Orleans will host the 82nd Sugar Bowl where the Ole Miss Rebels will face the Oklahoma State Cowboys this Friday night. The kick-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. and ESPN will show the game.
Ole Miss returns to the Sugar Bowl for the first time since 1970 when the Rebels defeated Arkansas with an Ole Miss great: Archie Manning.
No. 12 Ole Miss (9-3, 6-2 SEC) rolls into the game ready to continue the memorable season. Ole Miss has posted its best mark in the conference since 2003 when the Rebels went 7-1.
Junior quarterback Chad Kelly leads the Rebels’ offense with 3,740 passing yards, total of 4,167 offense yards. He accounted for 27 passing touchdowns and 10 rushing touchdowns this season.
Coach Hugh Freeze’s squad has put up a total of 483 points this season. The Landshark defense has only allowed the opposition score 274 points this season.
The Oklahoma State Cowboys are 10-2 overall and finished 7-2 in Big 12 play, tying for second place in the league standings. Oklahoma State is ranked 13th in both the AP and Coaches’ polls, and also at No. 16 in the final College Football Playoff poll.
Mike Gundy’s team began the season 10-0 and rose to fourth in the polls before ending the season in loss to Baylor and Oklahoma. The Cowboys were impressive in a two-game stretch that included a 70-53 win at Texas Tech and a 49-29 victory over No. 5 TCU.
With quarterback Mason Rudolph, the OSU offense ranks top 10 nationally in scoring (41.2 ppg) and passing (357.3 ypg). The defense, led by defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah, is fourth nationally in sacks (3.17/game) and ninth in turnovers gained (27). The Cowboys’ +13 turnover margin is tied for seventh nationally.
The Rebels and Cowboys are no strangers to one another as they have faced off before in the 2004 and 2010 Cotton Bowls. Ole Miss was victorious in both games.
