Americana in Mississippi Concert Series Makes Its Way To Oxford
Thursday, March 31, Thacker Mountain Radio Hour partnered with Visit Mississippi and Visit Oxford for the statewide Americana in Mississippi concert series. The free concert was at The Lyric Theater.
Hosted by Jim Dees and Thacker Mountain’s house band, this week’s show featured live music by the Jericho Road Show, alt-country band Lucero and singer and songwriter Hugh Mitchell. There was also a literature reading by author Randy Pierce.
The Americana in Mississippi Tour celebrates the state’s deep-running blues, country, gospel and Rock ‘n’ roll roots. The tour will make 16 stops across the state. Each show features a performance by a local band or musician, allowing for a true taste of each city’s musical flavor.
Interim director of Visit Mississippi, Daron Wilson said, “This is a great opportunity for visitors who are interested in music to come and experience it for themselves. We’ve come together to showcase the best of the best when it comes to Americana music.”
The Mississippi Museum of Art was also a partner of this week’s show. They parked outside of The Lyric, and individuals recorded themselves telling a story as part of their Modern Mississippi Trail project.
“I love Thacker because it’s such a fun gathering that happens every week, yet it is always just a little different,” Thacker Mountain intern and Ole Miss student Alex Presley said. “You just show up and know you’re going to be entertained.”
The show will be broadcast live on 92.1 and www.myrebelradio.com. To learn more about the Americana in Mississippi Music Tour, see www.visitmississippi.org/americana.
