Kayla Boutwell will continue her women’s soccer career beyond Northwest, with the All-MACJC sophomore defender signing with Freed-Hardeman University on Friday.
Boutwell will team up with Abigail Morales for the next two seasons at FHU and is the fourth Lady Ranger in the Levi Nunnally era to continue their career at the next level. Defender Kayleigh Sims is also headed to Millsaps College and Tristan Kitchens will play at Delta State.
“I am extremely happy for Kayla to continue her education and soccer career at Freed-Hardeman,” coach Nunnally said. “Kayla is an excellent individual and athlete. She played a crucial role in our defense the past two years and has been very reliable and consistent on the back line. I’m proud to have had the opportunity to coach her and know she will do a great job for coach Elliot.”
The Germantown High School product played and started in all 36 games for Northwest over the last two seasons, helping the Lady Rangers to 12 shutouts and adding six assists from her back line position.
While at Germantown, Boutwell helped the Mavericks to the Class 5A District 3 title and the second round of the MHSAA State Playoffs her senior year. She also earned the Mavericks Booster Club Scholarship and drew college interest from Mississippi College and several MACJC schools before deciding on Northwest.
Freed-Hardeman, located in Henderson, Tenn., competes in the American Midwest Conference of the NAIA. The Lions finished 8-7-2 last season and reached the semifinals of the AMC Tournament.
