In just a few days college baseball fans will be calling T.D. Ameritrade baseball stadium home in the middle of America known as “Omaha” which is where every college baseball player wants to be for the opportunity to play in the College World Series.
Two weeks ago the NCAA tournament was set with 64 teams vying to punch a ticket to the Mecca of college baseball. The Southeastern Conference had an unprecedented seven number-one spots with regional host spots. Four of them were national seeds.
Now we are just a few hours past from the 2016 CWS being set. Only one school from the SEC punched its ticket to Omaha. That team is the Florida Gators who defeated Florida State in a decisive game three of the super regionals as they won the game by the score of 7-0 on Monday night.
Over the weekend, the host schools did not prevail well in the tournament as all but three road teams punched a ticket despite hostile environments.
The Big XII conference will have three different clubs in Omaha, Texas Tech, TCU and Oklahoma State.
Miami, who is the number three seed in the tournament, defeated ACC foe Boston College to punch its ticket on the last day of the best-of-three series.
Arizona went into Starkville, Mississippi and won both games in the series by one run against No.6 national seed Mississippi State.
Coastal Carolina from Conway, South Carolina went into Baton Rouge and took the series from the Bayou Bengals in the first two games. That gave them their first ever spot in the College World Series.
UCSB clinched a ticket to Omaha by a walk off grand slam victory over Louisville on Sunday afternoon.
With the field set, the next week and a half will bring excitement on the baseball diamond. Will a power house win the national crown or will one of the Cinderella programs finish with a national title? This next double-elimination portion of the CWS will bring memorable games of baseball.
