5 Great Ole Miss Game Day Traditions
Ole Miss is part of the fabric of college football tradition in America. From the school’s famous battle cry, to beautiful girls to the best tailgating experience in the world, here are the best five game day traditions on one of the most sacred plots of football land in the nation…
1. The Grove
Hands down. Ole Miss has the market cornered on college football’s ultimate pre and post-game party. It is 10 acres of football heaven manifesting seven times every fall. Sporting News called it “The Holy Grail of tailgating sites,” and they were right. ESPN said, “Tailgating in The Grove is an experience so sublime even native son William Faulkner would be at a loss to describe it.” Sports Illustrated ranked The Grove as the nation’s number one tailgating locale, and The New York Times agreed, writing, “The glory of The Grove is legend at all of Ole Miss’ rival schools in the Southeastern Conference and beyond. It is the mother and mistress of outdoor ritual mayhem.”
2. The Walk of Champions
You can set your watch by it. Two hours before game time thousands of Ole Miss fans line a brick pathway beginning at the Walk of Champions arch and winding through The Grove to watch the Rebels make their way to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Ole Miss fans jockey for the best spot to wish the players luck in that day’s game, reaching out to high-five and touch their gridiron heroes. It’s one of college football’s greatest entries.

ESPY Award voting inadvertently trolls Ole Miss

ESPN’s ESPY awards will be held in Los Angeles on July 13. Fans can cast their votes in a number of categories, including “Best Play.”
The voting is taking place in a “bracket style” format, pairing off 16 great plays from the past year to determine the best. Ole Miss has a “16 seed” for Chad Kelly’s juggling, shotgun snap, tipped-pass for touchdown to Quincy Adeboyejo at Alabama. That play is paired off with a Hail Mary pass from Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers vs. Detroit.
Unfortunately for Rebels fans, the video ESPN.com has posted in the voting does not feature Kelly, Adeboyejo and one of Ole Miss’s greatest football moments; instead, it features one of the most heart-breaking plays in Rebel history.
