In the age of Social Media and Smart Phones, pictures are becoming increasingly popular and more accessible. More and more people are becoming interested in photography, and this Saturday, June 24th, the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council (YAC) is providing a workshop for those who want to improve their skills with a digital camera.
The YAC provides workshops such as this one to bring Oxford artists together, and to help them develop their skills in different fields. Artists make up an important part of the Oxford community, and the YAC uses workshops like this to provide the resources for them to continue to contribute to the community.
“Workshops of this nature are important, as they build a network of artists within the community helping to build a sustainable culture and talent pool while allowing a sharing of knowledge that develops the talents and skills of local artists,” said Director of the YAC, Wayne Andrews,
After they register, anyone ages 12 and up come to the Powerhouse Community Arts Center from 1:00 to 5:00 to participate in the workshop. Instructor Marcus Black will teach students how to use a digital camera properly and about all of the different components that go into taking a good picture. Students will participate in a “photo-walk” and other exercises to give them first-hand experience using their newly-learned skills.
Students must provide an SLR camera or an advanced point and shoot (that shoots in manual) and something on which they can take notes. For members of the YAC, the cost is $60, and for non-members, it is $75.
You can register for the workshop here.
