Inside Look at Oxford High School on National Signing Day

Every high school athlete hopes to take their talents on the gridiron to the National Football League one day, but the first step is to play in college.

At Oxford High School Wednesday, 10 football players committed to play at the next level by signing their letter of intent to the school of their choice. The 2018 senior class for the Oxford Chargers set a record with the number of student athletes enriching their craft at the next level.
“Our kids are well prepared for the challenges that face them after high school,” Oxford head coach Chris Cutcliffe said. “I think our student athletes do a great job in the classroom and that prepares them for their future. I think our community is really supportive of our athletic program across the board.”
The Chargers who signed to play in college will take what they learned on Bobby Holcomb Field, where they won a 1-5A North Half Championship, a Region 1-5A Championship and four playoff wins and finished their careers for the Blue and Gold with a 28-12 record.
“I think these guys have done a whole lot for our school and our program, and they have left it better than they found it with their example of leadership and work ethic and toughness,” Cutcliffe said. “A lot of things we want to see in our football players … these guys have embodied that and have left an impression on the groups behind them, and I think their impact will be felt for years to come.”
Jay Frierson signed to play for Belhaven University.
Will Hollingsworth committed to Millsaps College.
Jamar James signed his letter of intent to play at Faulkner University.
Jaquanzi Johnson, JT Owens and Dada Parham will all be headed to play at Mississippi Delta Community College.
CJ Terrell is headed to East Mississippi Community College.
Hiram Wadlington signed with Itawamba Community College.
Jaqaun Webb is going to Marshall University.
Quentin Wilfawn is going to play for Northwest Community College.
