Artist Corner: Ryan Miller's Stairway Sessions

Ryan Miller serves as the associate director of external operations for the Haley Barbour Center for Manufacturing Excellence. He has a passion for music, which is what ultimately brought him to Ole Miss in 1997. He sang with the University of Mississippi Concert Singers under the direction of Jerry Jordan, the Spirit of Ole Miss Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and was a founding member of the acapella group, Blue Ten Harmony.
Over the years, Miller has been involved in music and loves to sing with his wife, Erin. Miller has a passion for writing original compositions that he often plays in the stairwells and has high hopes of developing an album of original songs.
Miller has found a number of unique locations on the Ole Miss campus that have wonderful acoustics. He believes music has the ability to heal and to soothe when the soul needs it the most. Every now and then, Miller will steal away for a break from stress, routine or pressure to imbibe in the richness that is the element of stairway acoustics. It doesn’t matter what one sings, how good one is or who can hear, Miller said. It is fun and often cathartic.
“Stairway Session” was created as Miller’s own musical therapy but has morphed into an encouragement to others to be musical, to play and to sing. Miller pretends he is a rock star for a few minutes every Friday at the end of the week. It costs nothing other than a few minutes and the willingness to share in that love of music and stairway acoustics.
