The Lafayette Commodores look to bounce back this week as they take on the Saltillo Tigers for homecoming. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
Lafayette (3-2, 1-1) comes into Friday night after a difficult one-point loss 14-13 to divisional foe West Point.
“We have had one of the best practices of the season,” Lafayette head coach Michael Fair said. “I think the team realizes we left some opportunities on the field against West Point.”
This season, senior running back Jamie Shaw Jr. has carried the load for the Commodores. He has rushed for over 560 yards in just five games averaging 6.1 yards per touch for a total of seven touchdowns.
“[Shaw] has been a very psychical down hill runner and has been fun to watch,” Fair said.
This has been a great week of practice, and Fair expects a great effort from the Commodores against Saltillo, according to Fair.
Saltillo (1-5, 0-1) rolls into this game after losing to Olive Branch 26-6 to open the district slate. Saltillo picked up its lone win of season against Baldwyn 50-0.
“They are a very well coached team,” Fair said. “If you are in the wrong spot or you make a mistake they will make you pay. They are one of those teams that are very fun to watch play until you have to start preparing for them.”
The Tigers senior quarterback Drew Medlock has passed for 111 yards this season with one touchdown pass. In the victory over Baldwyn he threw for 97 yards. His teammate running back Darrell Anderson has rushed for a total of 270 yards this season. He is averaging 54.0 yards per game and has two touchdowns.
“On the offensive side of the ball, their quarterback is a great athlete,” Fair said.
