On Monday, Ole Miss football head coach Matt Luke announced he named Rich Rodriguez as the new offensive coordinator for the Rebels.
Rodriguez comes to Oxford to replace the vacancy left by Phil Longo. He has spent the last six seasons at the helm of the Arizona Wildcats. Rodriguez has also had stints at West Virginia and Michigan.
Rodriguez received a three-year deal with the Rebels and joins the staff along with new defensive coordinator Mike Macintyre. Both have been two of the last five Pac-12 Coach of the Year honorees.
“Part of building a successful program means surrounding our players with the most talented coaches, and I feel like we have done that with the hiring of Mike Macintyre to lead our defense and now Rich Rodriguez to lead our offense,” Luke said.
“Rich has coached at the highest levels of college football and is one of the most innovative offensive minds in our sport. I couldn’t be more excited to get to work with his experience, creativity and toughness as part of our team.”
During Rodriguez’s stint with the Wildcats in 2012-17 he established them as one of the most explosive offensive programs in the Pac-12. Arizona tied or set more than 100 offensive school records, including single-game records for categories such as most points, total yards, rushing yards, passing yards and even biggest comeback.
Over the last two seasons, Ole Miss has averaged 32.8 points per game (2017) and 33.9 ppg (2018).
Prior to Arizona, Rodriguez compiled a 60-26 record while at West Virginia and won four Big East Conference titles and was a two-time Big East Coach of the Year.
