After a prolific collegiate career at Ole Miss, former pitcher Kaitlin Lee is now the pitching coach at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala.
The softball team finished a dismal 23-31 overall last season but had an 11-6 conference record in the Southern Conference. Lee plans to bring her respective numbers during her time at Ole Miss to the Samford pitchers, she said.
Lee finished with 41 wins in her career with a 2.11 ERA. She had 40 complete games and pitched 438 innings with 202 strikeouts. In terms of Ole Miss team history, she ranks second all-time for her wins and shutouts, third in ERA, and sixth in innings pitched, starts and opponent batting average. Her collegiate success helped her become the second Rebel ever to be drafted in the National Pro Fastpitch League (NPF) by the Aussie Spirit with the first pick in the fourth round.
Samford head coach, Mandy Burford, said she is ready for Lee to bring her talent to the coaching staff.
”Kaitlin exhibits the qualities in a coach that we are looking for in our program and I believe she will have an immediate impact on our student-athletes,” Burford said. “I am excited to watch her take our pitching staff to new levels of success.”
It has not been announced whether Samford will play for Ole Miss again next season, but the two teams did meet on the diamond recently. Ole Miss won both games for a combined 21 to 5 runs.
