SFA: Rebuilding Willie Mae’s – A Podcast Preview

It’s been ten years since flood waters drowned New Orleans. At the time, all cameras were focused on one of America’s favorite cities, recording the destruction and devastation of familiar places. Reporters narrated levee breeches, flooded neighborhoods, and helicopter rooftop rescues in dramatic fashion.

But in time the cameras left and followed the next news story. New Orleans was left to recover on its own. And it did begin the process, slowly, that still continues today. But post-Katrina New Orleans is not the same as pre-Katrina New Orleans. It is a different place, with markedly different demographics.

Next week’s podcast will take a look at the recovery and change in the city. For a preview of a portion of that story, SFA invites you to watch Above the Line, a film feature about the rebuilding of Willie Mae’s Scotch House.
