The Oxford Ballet will present “The Nutcracker” at the Powerhouse Community Arts Center on Dec. 5 and 6. This year is particularly special because it will be the tenth annual performance of the famous, Christmas ballet by Oxford Ballet.

“There are so many sweet little cameos. Little ones will be inspired by through dancing,” Genevieve Fortnerr, the founder and director of Oxford Ballet, said. “For me, it is hearing the older students look back and say, ‘I once was in that when I was three and now I’m in a lead role.’ It is sweet for them to look back to see all the roles they were in.”

The production is normally a two hour ballet, but Fortnerr has edited the ballet to be about one hour in length.

“I have edited it to an hour so that it is more family friendly with younger children,” Fortnerr said.

The ballet will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 5 and 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 6. Doors will open 15 minutes before the show time. Tickets are available at the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council (662-226-6429) or at the door one hour before show time. General admission is $10 and $15 for reserved seating.
