Lafayette County Literacy Council to Host Kids' Trivia Sunday

The Lafayette County Literacy Council will host the inaugural Junior Genius Trivia event at Tallahatchie Gourmet on Sunday, Jan. 21, at 2:30 p.m.

With teams of up to six players, Executive Director Sarah McLellan said four teams are ready to compete, but council members hope to see more teams join in on the fun on Sunday.
“The Adult Genius Trivia has been a huge success,” McLellan said. “We have had parents ask us to host a junior one for the kids. We are always looking for ways to have activities with the kids, so this is absolutely perfect.”
For the adult trivia contest, topics are usually literary-based, but some topics for the kids will include sports, music, books, history, and movies.
“Hopefully, someone on each team will be able to answer each question,” McLellan said. “But some may be a little harder than others.”
To play, participants must be between fifth and eighth grades, and the cost is $10 per player. Prizes such as the Genius Trophy and other goodies can be won, and after the game, kids can compete again in an optional Genius Round for an additional $5.
The money raised will go toward the Lafayette County Literacy programs, such as the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program and the Adult Basic Literacy Education (ABLE) program.
“I hope this will be something that we do every year like we do the Adult Genius Trivia,” McLellan said.
