The Oxford Board of Aldermen voted on several requests Tuesday to help accommodate NBC/Universal crews while they film the pilot episode for “Bluff City Law,” a new criminal law television show.
The aldermen approved allowing NBC to store vehicles and trailers at the Oxford Conference Center for $1,500. They also approved allowing off-duty Oxford Police Department officers to work as security. Interim Chief Jeff McCutchen said the officers will be paid by NBC and not the city.
“They will be wearing their uniforms and will be in their patrol vehicles but the cost doesn’t come out of our budget,” McCutchen said.
To provide space for the crews during filming, the Board is allowing several parking spaces to be reserved – spaces directly in front of City Hall, 35 spaces behind City Hall and 12 spaces behind FNB.
Mayor Robyn Tannehill said the 140-plus crew will be spending time in Oxford, eating and sleeping in hotel rooms, during spring break which is usually a slow time for local businesses.
On Monday, the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors voted to allow NBC to use the Lafayette County Courthouse to film during spring break next week.
The show will feature Jimmy Smits and Caitlyn McGee as a father/daughter legal team who “join forces to take on the tough cases,” according to publicists.
