Northwest Mississippi Community College sophomore forward Seth LeDay will continue his collegiate basketball career in the prestigious Atlantic Coast Conference, signing a national letter of intent with Virginia Tech.
“I’m extremely blessed and honored to join my brother at Virginia Tech,” LeDay said. “I want to thank everyone at Northwest for their help in getting me to this level. I’m going to use my redshirt year to get bigger and stronger and improve my jump shot. The offer came late but it was a blessing and I can’t explain how excited I am.”
In his only season in a Ranger uniform, LeDay (6-7/200) served as one of the Rangers’ primary weapons and started in 24 of the team’s 26 contests during the 2015-16 season. He led the team in scoring at 18.5 points-per-game with a season-high 32 points against Coahoma on Jan. 19. A first team All-MACJC and All-Region 23 selection, LeDay scored in double figures in all but one game with 11 games of 20 or more.
In addition to his impressive scoring numbers, LeDay also led the team in rebounds (8.0 rpg), blocks (1.6 bpg) and field-goal percentage (.581) and made his presence felt around the rim with a team-leading 59 dunks.
LeDay, a Dallas, Texas, native will join his brother Zach LeDay, a rising senior at Virginia Tech, who played a big role in his signing with the Hokies. The Northwest graduate also had offers from Florida Gulf Coast, Nebraska, USM, Murray State and UT-Arlington and interest from another dozen programs.
“Seth made a huge impact in the one year with our program,” Northwest head coach Bubba Skelton said. “He is a very athletic forward that has a huge upside. Redshirting his first year should do nothing but enhance his game in all areas and help him mature physically. He’s going to play at a great program in a premier conference. Steve (Roccaforte) did an outstanding job recruiting him and we feel he’s in great hands with their coaching staff.”
LeDay’s NLI was made official earlier this week. Due to ACC transfer rules, he will not be eligible until the 2017-18 season but will join the program next spring. He is the third Ranger from this year’s team to sign with a four-year program, joining Dre’Kalo Clayton (Austin Peay) and D.J. Flippin (University of Mount Olive).
Virginia Tech finished 20-15 overall and 10-8 in the ACC this past season. Led by second-year head coach Buzz Williams, the Hokies earned a spot in the National Invitation Tournament, falling in the second round to BYU.
