Ole Miss Getting Stronger, Faster Under Paul Constantine

When Ole Miss hired Paul Constantine to run its strength and conditioning program, the move didn’t come with much fanfare. Strength coaches rarely do.

But inside the Manning Center, players felt the shift almost immediately. The program looks different. The numbers look different. The morale looks different. And the roster looks a lot more like the kind of team Pete Golding wants to take into November.

You can start with the data. Constantine’s NFL background shows up on paper before it ever shows up on the field.

Golding didn’t hide how dramatic the changes have been.

“You can look at the sheets and compare their January starting points to where they are now,” he said. “It’s really impressive.”

And the numbers say Ole Miss is getting stronger.

The weight is better. The speed is better. The football is better.

Golding made a point that matters more than any chart. Gaining weight is easy. Gaining the right weight is hard.

“I can look at a kid who weighed 202 pounds in January and now weighs 222,” he said. “But that weight could have come from eating McDonald’s for the last eight months. What does that weight look like, and has it increased his performance?”

Under Constantine, the answer is yes.

Players who needed to add mass to survive SEC football have added it. Players who needed more top‑end speed have found it. Players who needed to become more explosive have done it. And players who needed to reshape their bodies have reshaped them.

This isn’t just bigger. It’s better.

Why players bought in so quickly

Strength coaches aren’t always the most beloved people on a coaching staff. They push. They demand. They yell. They grind. And sometimes players push back. But Constantine’s approach has landed exactly the way Ole Miss hoped.

Golding said the turning point wasn’t the numbers. It was the players realizing the numbers were real.

“Players don’t always like the coaches who are really hard on them,” Golding said. “But when they start seeing the results and appreciating the discipline and everything else that comes with it, that’s when you know you made the right hire.”

That’s the difference with Constantine. His NFL background gives him credibility. His training methods give players proof. And his personality gives the room energy instead of dread.

Ole Miss looks like a team built for the long season ahead

Golding has talked all offseason about building a roster that can withstand a 15‑ or 16‑game season. That requires depth. It requires strength. It requires speed. It requires durability. And it requires a strength program that doesn’t just maintain players but improves them.

Constantine is doing exactly that.

The velocity‑based training is paying off. The weight‑gain and speed‑gain numbers are real. The buy‑in is real. The morale is real. And the roster looks more physically prepared than it has in years.

Ole Miss didn’t just hire a strength coach. It hired someone who is reshaping the foundation of the program.

And if the Rebels look stronger, faster and more durable this fall, you’ll know exactly where it started.
