Fine Art Digital Animation Workshop Set for Powerhouse
Every Wednesday from January 20 through March 2 (with the exception of Wednesday, February 17) Oxford residents will have the rare opportunity to “add movement to their artwork” by attending a first-ever digital animation workshop hosted by YAC at the Powerhouse.
The workshop, led by YAC’s newest instructor, Valerie Polgar, will focus on presenting several examples of animation styles so that each participant may pick one in which they are comfortable to use on a regular basis.
“For example; stop motion animation can show those interested in photography how to animate a series of photographs while those interested in Photoshop can learn how to create animated gifs using the software,” Polgar said.
For those students who might be more advanced or who want to explore animation further, Adobe After Effects will be introduced (which focuses on animating using keyframes on a timeline). According to Polgar, no prior experience using cameras, Photoshop or After Effects is necessary.
However, it’s important for participants to understand that the workshop is not designed to teach the intricacies of Photoshop, for example; but rather they will be given instruction on animation potential that is pre-built into the software. Therefore, a working knowledge of Photoshop could be useful to excel in the course. Participants will also be given resources in order to expand on acquired skills introduced in the class.
According to the YAC website (Oxford Arts): The class is intended for students who want to add movement to their artwork or for students interested in pursuing digital animation. The class will begin by covering frame-by-frame animation through an in-class collaborative stop-motion piece. Capturing and creating artwork intended for animation, layering and animating in Adobe Photoshop, and keyframing in Adobe After Effects will also be covered.
An important pre-requisite to the workshop is that participants will need to bring their own personal laptops and will also need Adobe Creative Cloud pre-loaded on their machine. Software needs will be reviewed during the first class session.
The time for each workshop is set for 7-9 p.m. and is geared for teens through adult-age participants.
Price for the workshop is $100 for YAC members and $115 for non-members.
