Tonight is the opening game of the 2016 World Series pairing the American League Champions Cleveland Indians against the National League Champions Chicago Cubs. Yes, the Cubs are in the World Series for the first time since 1945.
Ole Miss fans should be sure to check into this series to watch former Rebel Chris Coghlan take the field for the Cubs. Coghlan was drafted in the first round as the 36th pick of the Florida Marlins. He made his major league debut in 2009.
During his rookie year with Marlins, he had 41 hits in the month of August, which was the most for a rookie since Todd Helton hit 45 in August of 1998. On November 16, 2009, Coghlan won the National League Rookie of the Year Award.
In 2014, Coghlan was traded from the Florida Marlins to the Chicago Cubs. He spent the 2014 and 2015 season in a Cubs uniform. In February, the Cubs traded Coughlan to the Oakland A’s. The A’s then traded him back to the Cubs on June 9.
He has an average of .188 this season after splitting time this season between the Oakland A’s and the Chicago Cubs.
Game time set for the first game of the series is at 7 p.m. central time and can be seen on Fox.
